Teaching

I am a working practitioner in the film industry, working as a short form content producer and educator. I teach film and media at both FE level and HE levels. Additionally I run a filmmaking project (Action On The Side) that provides training and skills development to adult learners.

To my teaching, I bring my practical on-set experience and a deep understanding of all stages of media production. I teach camera, lighting, sound, directing, and other crew roles. I teach postproduction using industry-standard software (Adobe Suite, Final Cut, ProTools). I teach creative writing and screenwriting. I teach media production, including web design, professional practice and career development. I teach academic writing, referencing, and research practices.

I work well with students, providing academic and pastoral support. I focus on experiential learning and use the Socratic Method. I pride myself in teaching sustainable practices, diversity and inclusivity and including that in my practice. With my background in administration, I am highly organised, keep detailed records, and write reports for Quality Assurance and Accreditation purposes.

Key teaching topics: practical film production, sustainable film production, producing, directing, sound (theory and practical), camera and lighting, film history, film and media analysis, on-set etiquette, scheduling, budgeting, genre, auteur theory, creative writing and scriptwriting, personal and career development, research and referencing.
